And now for a different type of soundtrack to take a look at. Lelio Padovani has constructed a solo instrumental album that features cues from the italian movie, Il Solitario. While this album isn't a officially a soundtrack in the purest sense of the term, it's still worth the score fan's attention for its catchy instrumental presence.
First, this album is promoted as an "EP" given its limited number of tracks, but there is enough material on it to grant a full listening experience. The electronic tones of the album are melodically paired with recorded instruments to create a unique musical statement. Each of the tracks present a mini-story of their own, providing the listener with an easy listen and a chance to catch his or her breath from the routine commercial soundtracks that they are exposed to.
The cues on the album are marked to let you know which of the tracks were used in the Il Solitario film. From purely an outside observation, the choice of cues for the film were quite nice and it's easy to envision how the material could translate to a film. Same can be said for all the cues, really; there is an intimate cinematic presence associated with the work and it really gelled for me.
I'm not sure where Lelio is deciding to go from here but I certainly hope it's in the direction of film scoring. The natural talent is evident.
Final Score: Lelio Padovani's music should be pursued by soundtrack fans. This album in particular offers a chance to revive the senses with clean, electronic melodies that has an original charm about it. Nicely done!
