From the Xbox360 / PC game, which is getting straight A's from all the major game reviewers, comes a polished score by Garry Schyman, available for download in 2K Games’ site. The offering is not to be confused with the songs from the 50’s which play throughout the game; this is the purely orchestral score.

For a score that belongs decidedly to the horror genre, the brief compositions offer a highly listenable experience. From haunting yet not overdone piano cues to chilling string sections, the score delivers and, while it lacks extremely high production values, which would allow for more instruments, it nevertheless succeeds at its job.

"Welcome to Rapture" is a string based track reminiscent of the miniseries Nightmares and Dreamscapes’ main title. Only in this case it drops the burlesque, Elfman-esque tone in favor of a more serious approach.

The Engine city offers foreboding strings whereas "This is Where they Sleep" delves into more typical horror territory. The score wraps up with one of the only two full fledged action cues, "All Spliced Up", which once again succeeds in creating a wonderful atmosphere.

For those with a potent rig or proud owners of the MS console, it is highly recommended that you try at least the demo, which has incredible fire and water effects. What are they used for? I won’t spoil the fun for you.
